A SALON is bringing a new meaning to a bird’s nest for a haircut with an unusual new addition to their studio.

For the Boys II Men Barbers, of Raikes Close, Hood Manor now has it’s own office pet - a parrot that they hope will also raise them lots of money for charity.

Darran Coulburn, partner at the salon, wants people to put forward names for the four-month-old African Grey, donate £1 to charity for each name suggested and all money raised will go to St Rocco’s Hospice.

He said: “I got the parrot a week ago and I need a name for the bird. Parrots are the people’s birds. This was an idea off the top of my head, it’s quite a quirky and funny idea.

“A St Rocco’s Hospice charity shop is next door and they do a lot of work and it’s all worthwhile and I believe we can raise quite a lot of money for St Rocco’s by naming my bird.”

The 36-year-old’s new pet, whose sex is unknown by staff, will then have his name chosen in a prize draw later this year and the winner will not only have their name chosen but will also win £150 of products from the salon.

The bird has settled right in at his new home and has already proved highly popular with staff and customers alike.

“Customers are always coming in and looking at the bird. It’s a lovely pet to have and it’s amazing how many people have come in who have an African Grey. It’s very affectionate and I just can’t wait to give it a name. We have had a lot of football names like Gerrard,” added Darran And the soon to be named bird is already taking a keen interest in hairdressing and enjoys nothing more than having a close inspection of the hairstyles being created by staff.

But it has yet to get the hairdresser chat down yet as at four-months-old the bird is still learning to talk.

Darran said: “It says hello now and then but it’s only learning. It’s coming out with some gibberish and it makes a lot of racket.”
