CORONATION Street star Chesney Battersby-Brown joined other dog lovers in helping raise funds for the RSCPA on Slutchers Lane.

Fifteen-year-old Sam Aston, patron of the centre’s Safe Haven appeal, took part in an annual five-mile sponsored walk with his dog, a Lhasa Apso called Buddy, alongside around 40 other dog lovers last weekend.

The soap star was asked to become patron by Jacki Turner, a script supervisor on Coronation Street who lives in Lymm and is a volunteer dog walker at the Warrington centre.

The animal rescue home, which relies on public donations and receives no funding from the national charity, is licensed to accommodate 58 dogs and 36 cats and costs about £250,000 a year to run.

Sam, whose family also has another dog, four cats, two parrots and two budgies, is urging people to join the appeal by signing up to sponsor a kennel, cat pen or rabbit pen for £3 a month.
