THE John Holt Cancer Support Foundation had its official launch last week after years operating as a small scale lifeline for those battling cancer.

On Thursday, Mayor Clr Graham Welborn, who is a patron of the charity, and representatives of the health profession gathered to welcome its launch.

Until now the charity has been run from Fairfield Community House on Manchester Road, where it provides holistic therapies and support for people with cancer and their families.

The house is to close, and the foundation is seeking a new base.

It is trying to become a routine referral from GPs and hospitals so that patients will know of its existence.

The foundation has just been named charity of the year for Marks and Spencer, in Gemini, and will be doing a bag pack this Saturday and Monday to raise money.

It is still desperate for donations, which it is totally reliant on.

You can contact the centre on 0845 643 9949 and ask for Chris Holt or Mary Lawson.
