AN application submitted by a travelling showman for a permanent siting of a caravan in Great Sankey has been approved by councillors.
Great Sankey parish councillors had initially lodged an objection to the application for fear that the showman would use the rear of the land on Liverpool Road, which is currently used to park fairground vehicles and equipment, for business purposes.
But the parish councillors withdrew their complaints ahead of the development control meeting last Wednesday.
The committee heard the application, which included a proposal of the creation of a hardstanding to site the caravan on, would not be detrimental to the surrounding area.
Planning officers said that Warrington’s Unitary Development Plan states that caravans for travelling showpeople and other travellers would be granted provided the proposals meet with the criteria.
Councillors unanimously gave the plans the go-ahead.
