NEW fruit cages at Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden have been vandalised – less than 24 hours after being up.
The cages, worth £800, were put up in the historic garden on Thursday, April 9, but by Friday night they had been trashed – probably beyond repair.
The cages were bought by volunteer group the Friends of Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden with money raised from community events.
There was also some other pointless vandalism carried out – damaging other vegetable frames, destroying a pear tree, damaging a box hedge, damaging a flower boarder, getting on the roof of a backshed and removing the chimney pot plus other minor damage.
Now Janet Richards, clerk to Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council, is appealing for help.
“We would like to appeal to anyone who might know who carried out such a pointless attack – and if anyone has any information which may lead to the suspects,” she said.
Call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council, which owns the garden, on 264918.
