AN escaped prisoner was on the run from a Preston jail for 104 days before being captured in Warrington town centre.

Leroy Vennor did not return to Kirkham Prison, an open jail, on the evening of November 29 last year after spending the day on a day release programme.

It was not until March 15 that he was captured in Warrington town centre and put back in jail.

He was spotted on CCTV in the town and arrested.

Vennor, who also goes by the name Leroy Abbey, absconded because he had missed his partner and father, Warrington Crown Court was told today, Friday.

The 40-year-old Liverpool man was sentenced to four years and three months for possessing heroin and cocaine with intent to supply and for criminal damage on January 28,2008 at Preston Crown Court.

On Friday Judge David Hale added a further three months to his sentence to cover the time Vennor was absent without leave.
