THIS is the face of the man police are hunting after a pensioner was robbed of a large quantity of cash in his home in Padgate.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following the burglary at around 4pm on April 8, when a man claiming to be a Water Board official and displaying authentic looking identification, persuaded the elderly man to let him into his home on Valiant Close.

The 73-year-old victim was distracted by the bogus caller while a second man entered the house and stole a significant amount of cash.

DC Anna Last said: “Fortunately the victim was unhurt during the incident, however this was a cowardly act that preyed on the vulnerability of an elderly member of the community.

“We are appealing for anyone who saw anyone acting suspicously in the area at the time or any other residents who may have been approached by these men to call us.”

Anyone with information should call police on 0845 4580000 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
