YOUNG offenders from Thorn Cross got stuck in earlier this month to help Hatton residents.

The Arley Road, Appleton Thorn institution, was approached by Clr Phil Young, independent of Hatton Parish Council after green-fingered experts decided the shrub beds on Warrington Road in Hatton needed to be removed.

Clr Young said: “They were amazing young men. I found them to be polite, hard working and interested. The weather was chilly but they worked through it.”

Clr Paul Kennedy, (CON - Hatton, Stretton and Walton), said: “I was impressed with their work ethic.

“I appreciate that there may have been victims of the crimes but clearly they are putting something back into the community.

“I was really impressed, it was a hard job and they got stuck into it.

“I wish them well.”

Clr Young hopes that Thorn Cross Young Offenders Institution will be able to work on other projects in the village.

Discussions are now taking place to decide what should be placed where the shrub beds were.
