DO you recall the landlords and landladies of Warrington’s swinging 60s?

That was the question we asked on page 16 of the February 19 edition of the Warrington Guardian.

And readers responded in their droves with a definitive ‘yes’!

Jean Williams, aged 74, of Barrymore Court, Grappenhall, provided two old photos, found in her mother’s possessions.

Mrs Williams’ parents, Walter and Emmie Pilkington, ran the Hop Pole Hotel on Horsemarket Street.

The first picture shows the landladies, known as ‘The Dolly Sisters’.

The second photograph shows one of the Warrington Licensed Victualler’s Association’s (LVA) trips to Dublin.

The Warrington Guardian has tried to be as accurate as possible, however readers provided many conflicting answers, in which case the alternatives have also been printed.

‘The Dolly Sisters’: The man walking behind the ladies is Len Dawes, landlord at the Lower Angel on Buttermarket Street.
