A FIRE that killed an elderly man in his home was not started deliberately, police have said.
They are not treating Monday morning’s fire at Penketh Court sheltered housing as suspicious.
The man, who has not been identified, died in the fire despite efforts of the fire service and paramedics.
The emergency services raced to the Farnworth Road flats at aroung 8.45am on Monday where they found the blaze.
Two people were rescued from the flames. The other residents had escaped themselves.
Paramedics took a 90-year-old woman to Warrington Hospital where she was treated for smoke inhalation.
All the other residents took shelter in St Paul’s CE Church before being taken in by Sankey Manor housing.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
