A GROUP of cub scouts have sailed into their history books thanks to a £10,000 lottery grant.
With a blessing by Reverend Loraine Mellor and watched by chairman of Penketh Parish Council Clr Alin Dirir the 30th Warrington West (Methodist) group launched their new safety boat bought with the funding at a special ceremony at Fiddler’s Ferry Yacht Haven last Wednesday.
Chris Birkett group secretary said: “The group are very active in sailing and at the moment they have access only to quite a dilapidated safety boat so it will give them greater scope for sailing.”
The boat will be kept at Budworth Mere where the group of youngsters aged between six and 16 meet every Monday in the summer from April 20.
Steve Griffiths group scout leader added: “The group will not keep it for their own exclusive use – it will be used by other scout groups as long as they have their leaders’ permission.”
