POLICE have revealed that an elderly man has died in a fire at sheltered housing in Penketh earlier this morning.
The identity of the man has not yet been released.
Police were notified of the fire at the flats on Farnworth Road at around 8.45am.
Around 25 residents have been evacuated to St Paul's Church where they are currently sheltering.
There have been no further reports of casualties.
It is not yet known what caused the fire.
Police and fire crews remain at the scene.
