Twenty years ago Warrington was rocked by an IRA bomb attack which killed two children in the town. March 20 marks 20 years since the 1993 bombings. Over the next week, we will be looking at what happened then through the eyes of some of the key people involved.
DAFFODILS were laid on Bridge Street on Saturday in tribute to the victims of the Warrington bombing.
Friday marked the 16th anniversary of the IRA attack in 1993 in which Johnathan Ball, aged three, and Tim Parry, aged 12, lost their lives. Fifty-six other people were injured.
This year the call for remembrance came from Joe Tierney, aged 30, from Sankey Bridges, who set up the ‘Remember the Warrington bombing’ Facebook group to mark the event.
Mr Tierney came up with the idea after searching for something on the bombing on the social networking website.
He said: “I was surprised when I found there was nothing about the bombing on Facebook and felt that there should be.
“I have been amazed by the response and the number of people who have joined the page.”
Nearly 8,000 people have now joined the group, with many posting their memories of the day.
