The first win of the season as come so i thought it would be nice to do a positive blog.
I think since the season started the usual expectation as surrounded Warrington and once again that expectation turns to disappointment. I can understand the frustrations of the fans but no body feels it more then the players. To train from November-February and do all the preparations for the new season, only to preform like we have for the first 5 games is really hard to take.
For one it knocks a lot of confidence and without confidence you can be fighting a losing battle! Confidence comes through doing all the little things right at training, playing well as a team and the most important thing winning games! That doesn't necessarily mean if we lose a game we lose our confidence because we don't but winning becomes a habit and it breeds confidence!
I think we will take a lot from the Hull KR game, not only did we play well but it installed some trust and confidence that we have lacked since the start of the season. We all played as a team and worked for each other and for me it was our defense that won the game. We have done a lot of work since Tony Smith took over, and we have reviewed some videos of previous games with great detail.
Tony Smith as worked very hard on getting the team to play for each other and to get the attitude that 'We will work extra hard for the man next to me'. If all 17 players that take to the field have the same attitude then I think we'll be very hard to beat. It doesn't matter what the team sheets before the game read because without that attitude then we will get beat by any team in Super League. The team spirit at Warrington as always been good but i think with Tony he as brought little changes that will make a big difference.
Tony as fitted straight in to the set-up and he as brought so much in such a short time. All the squad have enjoyed Tony's Coaching techniques so far and also how approachable he his. Something we have done different this week is eat at the new restaurant in town called Mojo's, its a great way for the lads to socialize after a hard weeks training but it also takes are minds off the game for a couple of hours.
Last week when we all attended most of the lads parked in a 30 minute parking bay, when the traffic warden walked past i saw a blur..... I realized after a few minutes it was Mickey Higham sprinting to his car to make sure he didn't get a ticket...... i don't mind that but taking his food and latte with him was going to far, lets hope we can all show some of that pace this week against Celtic Crusaders and get the 2 points.
Speak soon Woody.
