A FACEBOOK group has been set up in remembrance of the Warrington bombing.
Tomorrow will mark the 16th anniversary of the IRA attack in 1993 in which both Tim Parry and Johnathan Ball lost their lives and 56 other people were injured.
This year the call for remembrance has come from Joe Tierney, aged 30, of Sankey Bridges, who set up the ‘Remember the Warrington bombing’ Internet group to mark the event.
Joe came up with the idea after searching for something on the bombing on the social networking website.
He said: “I was surprised when I found there was nothing about the bombing on Facebook and felt that there should be.
“I have been amazed by the response and the number of people who have joined the page.”
More than 7,000 people have joined in the remembrance since the page was set up two weeks ago, with many posting of their memories of the day.
Joe added: “I contacted The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace to see if they could help me raise awareness of an event on Saturday, March 21, as this will be the day before Mothering Sunday – the same day the bomb went off.
“Many of the people who posted called for an event which the community could get involved with at a time to suit them.
“Therefore although the actual anniversary is on the Friday, we’ve agreed with the council that people can lay daffodils at the site of the plaque on Bridge Street throughout Saturday.
“We ask everyone to remember all those who were affected on that day.”
Colin and Wendy Parry set up the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace following the death of their 12-year-old son Tim and three-year-old Johnathan Ball.
