TWO teenagers have been charged by police with carrying out a robbery in a Warrington park, which allegedly involved a knife.

The charges relate to an incident that occurred in broad daylight earlier this year on Monday, March 11, in Sankey Valley Park.

At around 2.29pm, Cheshire Police officers responded to reports of an armed robbery in the park.

The caller reported that a 41-year-old woman was sat on a park bench just off the pathway along Sankey Canal.

She alleged that she was approached by two unknown individuals, believed to be teenage boys, who threatened her and demanded that she hand over all her possessions.

The woman refused, at which point one of the boys was alleged to have revealed a small knife to her, and she then handed over £30 in cash.

It was claimed that they proceeded to threaten her further, asking for her phone, and when she refused and made an attempt to retrieve her stolen money, one of the boys kicked her in the face, causing considerable facial bruising.

They are then then said to have fled on foot in the direction of Warrington Hospital.

A public appeal for information was launched, with police stating that the ordeal left the victim ‘considerably shaken’.

Now, the force has confirmed that a 14-year-old boy from Warrington and a 17-year-old boy from Stockport have been charged with robbery.

The boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons due to their ages, have been released on conditional bail.

They are set to appear before Warrington Magistrates' Court on Thursday, December 12.
