WARRINGTON Borough Council looks set to sell the town centre building formerly known as Poll Tax House.
A report on the issue will come before the council’s cabinet at its meeting on Monday.
It will inform members of a proposal to sell 21 Rylands Street and to seek approval for a sale.
Older readers may remember it as Lennon's supermarket, which was notable for its rooftop car park.
It states that the ‘disposal’ of the property is proposed for economic regeneration, growth and financial capital receipt purposes.
The report says: “21 Rylands Street (formerly known as Poll Tax House) is a two-storey office building in the town centre.

“It was the base for a section of the council’s finance team. At one time it was open to the public for payments and information but this function closed over 10 years ago.
“As part of the further consolidation of offices into 1 Time Square in 2020, the finance office closed shortly after. The property is surplus to council requirements and has been held for regeneration purposes.
“The council will receive a capital receipt following completion of the sale of the site.
“The sale of the asset will relieve the council of annual holding costs including business rates, security and insurance.”
The cabinet is recommended to approve a sale of the property on the terms as set out in the Part Two report, which is not public.
