GULLIVER’S World Theme Park has received a two-star food hygiene rating after a ‘huge investment’ to help improve standards.
The theme park, which is in Old Hall, received the same below standard rating in August.
At the time, inspectors from the Food Standards Agency found that Gulliver’s World required improvement.
The ratings are issued by the Food Standards Agency and are publicly available online.
Ratings range from five, very good, to zero, requires urgent improvement.
The Food Standards Agency does not disclose the full reasonings behind the ratings but does reveal general areas requiring improvement.
Inspectors found that cleanliness in the building and the management of food safety to be ‘generally satisfactory’.
However, the hygienic handling of food, including the preparation and cooking of food, was found to require improvement.
Each business has the right to reply to a rating, and Gulliver’s World responded outlining the steps being taken to improve standards.
“We have invested highly in new food outlets being up to standard,” the response from Gulliver’s World stated.
“This has now been implemented by the new management team. At the time of inspection there was no head of catering or catering manager.
“Recruitment has now been completed and a new head of catering has been employed along with a catering manager.”
However, when Gulliver’s World was reinspected on October 24, inspectors found that overall, the standards had not improved.
While inspectors found that hygienic food handling had improved to ‘generally satisfactory’, the cleanliness of the facilities and building were found to require improvement.
Craig Clews, resort director at Gulliver’s World, said: “Further to our inspection by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in August, all identified improvements were applied within the timeframes advised and, keen to enhance compliance even further, we then proactively requested a revisit in October to include units and areas that were not inspected during the first visit.
“We continue to work quickly and closely with the FSA, aiming of course to restore a higher rating and matching the four and five star standard of our other UK theme parks.”
The theme park was issued the same below standard rating of two stars, which can be viewed on the Food Standards Agency website.
