OFFICERS have warned residents of cold callers who are reportedly taking an interest in parcels left on doorsteps.
Great Sankey Police shared the warning on their Facebook page.
They said that yesterday, Monday, they attended an address in the area after receiving reports of cold callers, who were men, attending properties.
When the men were challenged, they said they were offering ‘roofing services’ and provided a flyer.
A short time before officers received these reports, they were also alerted to a woman who was attempting to withdraw £300 from a post office to pay workmen to cut a tree down.
Unfortunately officers were not able to trace anyone involved as they did not have any details for the woman.
A Facebook post by Great Sankey Police reads: “Rogue traders are nothing new, but they remain a nuisance and even a threat, particularly to the more vulnerable members of our community.
“Cold callers often sound very plausible and offer a real deal when they call at properties but residents have ended up being ripped off by them.
“Never do business 'at your door', or answer fliers. Real traders will rarely have to reach out to you first.
“Our advice is to always say ‘no thank you – please leave’ and then immediately close the door. If the trader won't go away, tell them that you will call Trading Standards.
“If you feel under real threat or in danger, you should contact us on 101 or if it is an emergency dial 999.”
