APPLETON pupils where lucky enough to hear the inspiring story of a Team GB Paralympian, as he made an exciting visit to their school.

St Monica’s Catholic Primary School welcomed former wheelchair tennis player Antony Cotterill to meet students for an uplifting talk.

Antony, who competed at both the Tokyo and Rio Paralympics, captivated students with the story of his journey of resilience and determination.

He spoke about overcoming challenges and the importance of never giving up, leaving pupils motivated and full of admiration.

Antony then led an interactive fitness circuit, giving every student a chance to exercise alongside the Paralympian while raising funds for new sporting equipment for the school.

The children enthusiastically embraced the challenge, working hard and having fun while deepening their understanding of perseverance and healthy living.

“It was amazing to meet Antony and hear his story,” said one pupil. “He taught us that no matter how tough things get, you should always keep trying.”

The day concluded with a lively Q&A session, where students posed ‘thoughtful and engaging’ questions to the Paralympian. The event was said to be a ‘resounding success’, leaving a lasting impression on both staff and pupils.

Class teacher Miss McCaldon expressed her gratitude following the visit.

“Anthony’s visit has not only inspired our children but also reinforced the importance of resilience in all aspects of life,” she said. “We’re incredibly thankful for his time and the positive impact he’s had on our school community.”
