The chief executive of a major nursery chain has trekked across Cambodia, raising more than £12,800 for charity.
Clare Roberts, CEO of Kids Planet Day Nurseries based in Lymm, undertook the expedition in support of the EY Foundation, which aids disadvantaged young people in the UK to transition into education, employment, or entrepreneurship.
The foundation provides skills development, mentorship, and opportunities to 13 to 25-year-olds, helping them overcome barriers to achieve their ambitions.
Mrs Roberts embarked on the challenging journey, which included navigating the Angkor Wat temple, in high temperatures and tough terrains.
Her days began at 7am, during which she covered around 20 kilometres daily, traversing waterlogged rice fields, jungle branches, and steep, unstable rocks.
Her determination sparked a wave of fundraising activities across Kids Planet nurseries, with staff, children, and families rallying together in support.
Kids Planet Llandudno hosted a fancy dress day, while Kids Planet Crewe showcased children’s artwork to parents and families.
Kids Planet Prestwich held a 'crazy hair day' with children sporting bright colours and extravagant styles.
The Kids Planet SEND Team undertook a fundraising walk around Chorlton Water Park, demonstrating teamwork and community spirit.
These activities, combined with Mrs Roberts' trek, have so far raised an impressive total of more than £12,800 for the EY Foundation, with more donations continuing to come in.
Reflecting on her journey, Mrs Roberts stated: "This trek was one of the most challenging but fulfilling experiences of my life, with extreme temperatures, rough terrains, and just five days to complete.
"There were eight of us in total, and we inspired and supported each other every day.
"Exploring Cambodia's unspoiled countryside and culture was truly unforgettable.
"It was inspiring to see our Kids Planet nurseries rally together with such enthusiasm and creativity, all for a cause that helps transform young lives.
"I want to thank everyone who has supported us and donated.
"Your sponsorship will go directly to the EY Foundation and make a real difference to young people’s lives, helping them develop the skills and potential they need to succeed in work and beyond."
