A POPULAR Warrington pub is set to undergo something of an exterior facelift.
Plans have been submitted to Warrington Borough Council seeking advertisement consent for The Famous King and Queen.
This is for the installation of three externally illuminated name boards, an amenity board and a one-sided, wall-mounted sign.
In planning documents, applicant Greene King brewery says that ‘little is known about the history of the pub’.
The Padgate Lane building is locally listed and used to be called the King and Queen Hotel, with ‘Famous’ added in the 1970s.
The Padgate pub still has old coach houses to the rear.
Plans add: “The design concept is to replace the existing signs on a mainly like-for-like basis, with the fascia sign to the front being changed to a name board with LED trough light above, with warm white illumination.
“The two replacement smaller-name boards will have a pictorial display and LED warm white illumination.
“The use of warm white light gives a softer light to the signs due to its position on the main road.
“Before the commencement of works, a health and safety assessment will be carried out by the main contractor.
“Scaffolding will be erected and all safety measures applied. Barriers will be installed for the safety of pedestrians and workers on the site.
“The proposed signage proposal has taken into consideration the history of the building and impact on the surrounding street scene.
“The reason for replacement signs would be to maintain the appearance of the exterior.”
