A MAN was arrested at a Warrington hospital after claims he was 'contaminated' prompted a 'hazmat' response.
Police officers were called to a disturbance at Warrington Hospital at 2.30am yesterday morning, Wednesday.
On arrival, they arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of drink-driving and causing a nuisance.
The man then claimed to be ‘contaminated’ with an unknown substance, which prompted officers to call in a hazmat team from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Specialist fire officers put up a decontamination tent and the area was cordoned off.
Police said this was a 'precautionary measure', and it was later confirmed that the man was not contaminated.
He was then taken to a police custody facility, but he has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “At around 2.30am on Wednesday, November 27, police were called to a disturbance at Warrington Hospital.
“Officers attended and a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and causing a nuisance at an NHS premises.
“Following his arrest, the man claimed that he had been contaminated with an unknown substance.
“Therefore, as a precautionary measure, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene and a small decontamination tent was set up outside the building.
“It was later confirmed that the man had not been contaminated, and he was taken to police custody.
“The man has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.”
