A DOG owner has commended the “heroic” actions of her son and attending police officers who intervened after her pet was attacked by another canine.

Emma Walkden said the “horrendous” attack happened after a dog had managed to get into the garden of her Newton-le-Willows home last Tuesday afternoon, November 19.

The dog launched its attack on Emma’s pet Russ, a five-year-old Patterdale Terrier, suffered multiple wounds to his face, ears, neck and shoulders.

Russ had to be taken to an emergency vet following the attack and had stitches and has also suffered from infections and complications since.

Emma, who suffers from health conditions causing pain and chronic fatigue, had to go to A&E herself that evening following the “stress” of the incident, with Russ her companion during the day.

Emma said if it wasn’t for the actions of Ethan, 20, and attending police officers, Russ would no longer be alive.

“It was a really traumatic experience, if it wasn’t for the police tasering the dog and my son being so selfless my dog would have been dead,” said Emma, 40.

“It was horrendous, I have never seen anything like it.

“There was blood everywhere. I said to my son Ethan we are going to have to call the police, it was so vicious.

“My son managed to restrain the dog while it still had my dog so it couldn’t hurt it anymore.

“The police turned up and they were so efficient and professional. They Tasered the dog twice and the officer just handled it really well.”

Emma added: “My son was absolutely heroic and selfless, and the police were second to none.”

In a statement last week, a Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: “We received a report just after 4pm on Tuesday, November 19, that a dog a dog ran in to a garden of a property on Alder Street and attacked another dog.

“Officers attended and the injured dog sustained facial wounds which have been taken to the vets by owner.”

She added that police inquiries remain ongoing and no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
