A football club has held its first fundraiser to raise money for new equipment.

Matthiola FC hosted the event at Eagle Sports and Social Club on November 15.

The event included a DJ, prize raffle, bingo, games, and an auction.

The club, which was formed in 1996, has a range of teams from under sixes to a senior team.

It was set up by Eunice Peters and the name Matthiola comes from the flower that grew around the pitch on Stocks Lane in Penketh.

The fundraiser was supported by a donation from David Wilson Homes.

Nicola Deakin, welfare officer and fundraising chair at Matthiola FC, said: "It is great to have received support from David Wilson Homes.

"It's important to clubs like us to get support from large businesses and organisations, and we are very grateful for David Wilson Homes for its donation to our club."

The money raised will be used for new equipment and facilities for all the teams.

Claire Jarvis, managing director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: "We are delighted to have made this donation to Matthiola Football Club so that it can continue its great work with the local community.

"We are committed to creating a positive impact on the surrounding areas in which we build and are pleased to have been able to help the club continue to provide local residents with a chance to train and play football in a safe and fun environment.

"Matthiola FC is certainly headed in the right direction and has come a long way in developing the teams and facilities, and we are very excited to see how the club fares in the coming years."
