A GROUP that provides support to those who may be isolated, lonely, homeless or hungry over Christmas is returning this year.

Warrington Open Doors at Christmas (WODAC) will open its doors again over the festive period.

It first started in 1991 and since then the volunteers have provided hot meals, drinks, and a friendly face.

Last year, there were 337 food parcels delivered, 325 people transported to and from WODAC, 448 guests that attended and 510 hot meals that were served.

WODAC will open from December 25 to January 1 and it will be based at St John’s Church on Wilderspool Causeway.

Some of the donations WODAC is looking for includes:

  • Clean, warm clothing - gloves, hats, thermal vests, leggings, outdoors coats
  • Tinned food - meats, fish, fruit, meals
  • Long lasting foods - noodles, cereal bars, biscuits
  • Sanitary products
  • Toilet rolls
  • Baby wipes

Sarah Lavelle, volunteer coordinator at WODAC, said: “WODAC is run entirely by volunteers. We are fortunate that so many people from Warrington and the surrounding area are willing to give up their time over the Christmas period.

“We had over 250 fantastic volunteers last year, all contributing in so many different ways. We had chefs, drivers, dining room staff, food parcel packers, delivery drivers, shop staff, washer uppers, veg peelers, hairdressers, musicians, crafters, duty managers...the list goes on and on!

“Without the generosity of businesses and people donating food, clothes and money, there would be no WODAC. So a huge thank you to our supporters and volunteers for everything that you do.”
