A NEW ‘tap room’ offering craft beer, handpicked wines and artisan spirits looks set to open in Warrington.

Homebrew Tap says it offers the ‘very best’ in local, national and international beers, along with artisan wine and spirits.

The business already has ‘relaxed atmosphere’ venues in Oxton, New Brighton, Hoole, Frodsham and Crosby.

But the business has now applied to Warrington Borough Council for an alcohol licence for number 112 London Road in Stockton Heath.

The unit in question is currently vacant, having been formerly occupied by Pip Squeak and Wilfred, which offered children’s clothing, toys and gifts, as well as children’s fitted shoes.

It opened in March last year, and before then the building was the home of a women's clothes shop.

But the shoe shop announced it was to close in May due to increasing overheads and the cost of living crisis.

Last month, the Warrington Guardian reported that the empty former shop unit was set for a new lease of life, with plans submitted to the council for a change of use of the building.

Applicant David Thrussell, of Folde Properties Ltd, sought permission to turn the premises from a shop to a licensed premises.

The licencing application seeks permission for the supply of alcohol, Monday to Sunday between 11am and 11pm.

Representations in relation to the application should be made to Warrington Borough Council, to be received no later than December 17.

On its website, Homebrew Tap states: “Founded in 2017, Homebrew Tap began life in Oxton Village, a leafy residential area in the Wirral peninsula, offering a vast selection of locally-sourced and international specialist beers, wines and artisan spirits.

“Building on the success of the Oxton venue, Homebrew Tap now spans over five different sites in Hoole, Oxton, Frodsham, New Brighton and Crosby.

“With spacious interior and exterior seating where possible, we aim for each of our sites to have its own twist, while providing friendly service and top-quality beers, wines and spirits.

“We strive to stock the best craft beers around, along with hand-picked wines and artisan spirits.

“With more than 10 beers on tap and two fully stocked fridges, there will always be plenty of choice for you to discover something new.”
