MORE THAN £16,000 has been raised in 24 hours to help get a man in a medically induced coma in Benidorm back home.

Andrew Frazer, 42, only booked to go on the trip on Wednesday, November 13 for his brother Ian’s birthday last minute.

ALthough from St Helens, Andrew works often in Warrington and has family in the town.

He booked after others in the travelling party dropped out late on and he did not get travel insurance.

In the early hours of the following morning, his family reported that at around 1.30am Andrew, from Sutton, was taken to hospital with a bleed on the brain.

It is alleged while out in the Spanish resort he was punched before falling and hitting his head.

His niece Jessica Owen said: “The first hospital found out he had no insurance put seven staples in the back of his head - no scans were taken - and sent him on his way.

“All he did was sleep at the hotel. By Friday, his brother Ian was really concerned about him, so he rang an ambulance to take him to another hospital. This hospital scanned him (which Ian had to pay for) and it showed a bleed on the brain.

“He was then transferred to the general hospital where he has been ever since on a hydration drip and painkillers. The hospital said they were waiting to see if his body absorbed the bleed.

“He was scanned yesterday as he still cannot talk or walk, the bleed was found to be much worse and he was taken for a craniotomy, with them saying that if they didn’t do the surgery when they did he would have died.

“Andrew is now in a coma on life support, his fiancee Carrie, my auntie, flew out as soon as she knew he was in hospital with my mum Claire.

“We need to raise enough funds to cover medical costs, accommodation costs over there and their household bills over here as they are both now not working.”

The fundraising page was set up yesterday to help the family get enough funds to bring Andrew home, with the total now reaching a staggering £16,675 in less than 24 hours.
