A TRIP to the bingo has seen a public nuisance and prolific offender put behind bars for the second time within weeks.

Shaun Scanlon is back behind the bars of a prison cell after breaching his criminal behaviour order again.

The 48-year-old has a lengthy criminal record, which saw such an order imposed.

Criminal behaviour orders are handed down to serial criminals who engage in persistent anti-social behaviour, to offer protection for communities from the debilitating impacts such behaviour has.

The defendant appeared before Crewe Magistrates’ Court recently charged with breaching this order.

Stephanie Fanello, prosecuting, explained how the breach occurred in Warrington on November 7.

Scanlon attended Buzz Bingo at Cockhedge Centre – something his order specifically prohibits him from doing.

He had only recently been released from prison, having been handed a 10-week jail term in October for yet another criminal behaviour order breach.

The defendant has previously been locked up for being drunk and disorderly in public, spitting in his police cell and assaulting a shopkeeper by putting him in a headlock.

Before then, he was jailed for threatening to stab a friend while intoxicated and brandishing two kitchen knives.

He also has convictions for carrying knives in separate incidents and smashing a window at the Firkin Tap pub on Buttermarket Street.

Having pleaded guilty, magistrates proceeded to sentence the defendant, commenting that prison was inevitable.

This is given the fact that he has a ‘flagrant disregard for court orders’ and has persistently breached his criminal behaviour order.

Scanlon, of Winmarleigh Street near Warrington town centre, was sentenced to 28 weeks in prison, to be served immediately.
