A Christmas tree festival is set to bring festive cheer to a village.

The three-day event at St Oswald's Church in Winwick will see local businesses and voluntary organisations sponsor and decorate trees for the event.

The festival, which will raise funds for the church, will be held on December 5, 6, and 7.

Organiser Ann France said: "I am delighted with the response.

"We have asked businesses and organisations taking part to donate a tree decorated in any style they wish.

"The tree can be homemade, real, or artificial and dressed to represent the sponsors’ business or organisation so we may get some really imaginative displays.

"The sponsors range from a local hairdresser to bell ringers, a large national department store and the local village school."

It will be opened by the Reverend Martin Cox, priest in charge at St Oswald’s, at 2pm on December 5.

He said: "Visitors to the festival, a first for St Oswald’s, will be warmly welcomed as the church prepares for Christmas.

"I would like to thank local business and organisations who have supported the event."

Each tree will be identified with the name of the business or organisation displayed at its base.

Ms France added: "The architecture and history of this iconic church will lend itself wonderfully to what will be a Christmas celebration with extra sparkle and atmosphere.

"Christmas is a special time for children and there will be a treasure hunt organised for them on each of the days."

The festival will open from 2pm to 4pm on December 5, 1pm to 4pm on December 6, and from 10am to 4pm on December 7.

Entry is £5 for adults and £1 for children, with refreshments available in the parish hall.
