A SEVENTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD man has died following a crash.

Police said the collision took place on Common Road, close to its junction with Short Street, Earlestown.

The crash involved a grey Renault Captur and a silver Ford Focus, and happened between 9.30am and 9.45am on Monday, October 28.

The 71-year-old driver of the Renault Captur has since died, police have confirmed.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and daschcam footage to help the establish the full circumstances of the crash.

In a statement, a Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: We are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision in Newton-le-Willows.

"The collision, between a grey Renault Captur and a silver Ford Focus, took place on Common Road, close to it junction with Short Street, between 9.30am and 9.45am on Monday, October 28.

"The driver of the Captur, a 71-year-old man from the Newton-le-Willows area, was taken to hospital following the collision but has since sadly passed away.

"We are conducting a number of enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident and we would like to appeal for the driver or passengers of a blue vehicle that may have been in the area at the time and would likely have witnessed the collision, to contact us.

"We would also ask anyone who believes they have dashcam footage of the collision or any other information which could assist our investigation to get in touch.
