A series of community "Safe and Well" events have been launched by Warrington Borough Council.

These events, which will run until December 10, aim to provide residents with crucial advice and information on staying well in the winter months.

As the nights grow longer and colder, and illnesses become more prevalent, the council hopes these events will be an essential hub of support for the community.

The "Safe and Well" events will provide residents with advice on accessing benefits they may be entitled to.

The events will also offer health checks as well as flu and Covid-19 vaccinations.

There will also be guidance on home safety, including fire safety measures, and freebies to help residents stay well at home throughout the winter.

Set to take place at various locations around the town, the first event will be held on November 22 at Glazebury Methodist Church.

This will be followed by an event on November 29 at St John's UR Church.

On December 5, the event will be held at the Talking Point at The Living Well Hub and the final event will be on December 10 at Fearnhead Cross Community Centre.

The Living Well Bus, offering free flu and COVID-19 vaccinations, will be present at the events on November 22, November 29, and December 10.

Councillor Sue Emery, Cabinet Member for Poverty, Inequality, and Protection, said: "The community Safe and Well events we’ve set up are for everyone.

"You’ll be greeted with a smile and a brew, and we can provide support and guidance to you about a range of issues to help you stay well over the winter period.

"The events are all about helping you to keep well over winter, stay safe in your home during these colder months, and access advice on how you could potentially save money."

Councillor Emery also encourages residents to attend the events if they have any questions about their benefit entitlements.

She said: "In particular, I want residents who may have questions about what benefits they might be able to access to come along.

"We’ll provide you with guidance and advice about what you may be entitled to.

"It’s really important we help as many people as possible to know what they can receive."

The events are not solely run by the council, but are supported by various partners across Warrington.

These include Warrington Voluntary Action, Warrington Disability Partnership, the Citizens Advice Bureau, NHS organisations, Cheshire Police, Cheshire Fire and Rescue, Torus Foundation, and more.
