A 20-YEAR-old drug driver has been banned from getting behind the wheel.

A drug test revealed that Harvey Weaver had ketamine in his system after he was spotted driving ‘erratically’ in Great Sankey.

He appeared before Warrington Magistrates’ Court for sentencing on Tuesday after pleading guilty to driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specific controlled drug above the specified limit.

The court heard how at around 12.25am on July 25, an officer was on duty in the Skyline Drive area when he saw a Corsa being driven ‘erratically’.

The officer said how the driver took the roundabout at speed.

As a result, the vehicle was stopped and the officer spoke to the driver who was the defendant.

Warrington Magistrates’ Court was told how Weaver’s eyes were bloodshot and his pupils were dilated, so a roadside drug swipe was performed which came back positive.

As a result, Weaver was arrested and taken to Runcorn Custody Suite where a further drug test was carried out.

This showed that there were 34g of ketamine within Weaver’s system.

The court heard how Weaver, of Shanklin Close, Great Sankey, has no previous convictions.

Defending, Mr Edwards said: “He is a young chap, he is only 20 years of age.”

It was heard how Weaver was ‘not going through the best of times’ when he committed the offence, having fell out with his boss and his then girlfriend moving to a different country.

Mr Edwards said how his client had been using drugs at this time for around six months, but his arrest was a ‘massive wake up call’ and he has not taken any drugs since.

Weaver was banned from driving for 17 months.

He was also handed a £120 fine and must pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £48.
