A GOLFER from Warrington is in the running for a major national prize for his impressive charity work.

George Blackshaw, from Lower Stretton, has been shortlisted for an inspiration award at the Variety Disability Sport Awards 2024.

The 25-year-old works for Westbrook-based American Golf in social media. He is a game changer for the business, aiming to promote disability golf.

George has been playing golf for 10 years. He lost both his arm and his leg at 15 months old due to a lawnmower accident, and has been determined to overcome challenges in life, a huge part of this being sport. George’s love for golf inspires people to play, and highlights that golf is a sport that is for everyone.

Among his impressive work has been fundraising for Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool, where he was first treated for his injuries.

He said: "I am truly honoured to be nominated for this award - it really made my day!

The awards are being held at Soho Place Theatre on Monday, November 25.
