Four women from a national health and social care charity have been nominated for prestigious awards.
The Women Achieving Greatness in Social Care (WAGS) Awards celebrate the exceptional contributions of women in the care sector.
This year, four women from Making Space, a Warrington charity with its headquarters on Allen Street, have been shortlisted.
The WAGS Awards recognise the achievements of women in social care, who make up 82 per cent of the UK's 1.59 million-strong workforce.
Alongside chief executive officer Rachel Peacock, who is vying for the third sector leader title, three other women from Making Space have been shortlisted in various categories.
Sue Smith, a volunteer for nearly 10 years with St Helen's Family Support, has been nominated for volunteer of the year.
Ms Smith began volunteering after seeking support following the loss of her partner to substance use and has since dedicated her time to supporting others.
Karen Toole, a senior support worker at Rosemary Court in Darlington, is a finalist in the women in tech category.
Despite never having turned on a computer before, Ms Toole embraced IT skills and is now the team’s "go-to" for tech support.
Lynn Mulhaney, a lifelong social care worker at Knowsley Supported Housing, is shortlisted for the lifetime achievement award.
Ms Mulhaney is approaching her 70th birthday and is celebrated as "the perfect support worker" by her service manager, Leah Coggins.
Keri Smith, associate director of Making Space, said: "Rachel knows social care from the roots up.
"Starting out as a youth worker in Liverpool, and now our CEO, she’s fuelled by an unwavering passion to make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable people.
"Lynn and Karen are exemplary employees, living out our Making Space values of having courage and tailor making.
"The support Lynn offers is truly person-centred, and she is always looking to add to her decades of experience with further training opportunities.
"Karen's bravery in not only facing her IT demons, but upskilling herself to a truly impressive level, are testament to her courage and determination.
"Sue is a one in a million volunteer and we wish them all the best of luck."
The WAGS are annual national awards that celebrate the achievements of women in social care and recognise those who have made a significant contribution to supporting colleagues in the workplace.
Ms Smith, Ms Toole, Ms Mulhaney, and Ms Peacock will find out if they have won at a gala dinner at the London Hilton Bankside Hotel with Baroness Floella Benjamin on November 28.
