A YELLOW weather warning for snow will be in place in Warrington from today, Monday, until Tomorrow.

Coming into place at 7pm and lasting until 10am on Tuesday, forecasters say a period of snowfall could bring disruption to the town.

The temperature looks like it will also drop to 1°C.

A Met Office spokesperson said for tonight: "Rain arriving this evening, falling as snow over the hills, with snow accumulations possible on lower-lying ground overnight.

"Significant travel disruption on higher routes with icy roads. Turning breezy. Cold. Minimum temperature -3 °C."

A summary provided for Tuesday's forecasts said: "An icy start in places, especially in Pennine areas. Soon becoming dry with sunny periods and remaining dry and largely sunny through the afternoon. Feeling cold with brisk northerly winds. Maximum temperature 4 °C."

As the yellow weather warning comes into place, the following is to be expected:

  • Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers

  • Possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel

  • A chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

  • Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected

  • Some rural communities could become cut off

  • Bus and train services may be delayed or cancelled, with some road closures and longer journey times possible
