POLICE have shared some of the lethal weapons that have been surrendered in Warrington during an amnesty period.

Cheshire Police participated in Operation Sceptre last week – a week-long crackdown on knife crime.

The scheme involved a number of initiatives, including knife arches installed in public locations, officers conducting knife sweeps across the town, and talks given in schools.

As part of the initiative, members of the public were encouraged to surrender their unwanted blades for destruction, to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.

Officers have shared a photo of one surrender bin in Warrington, which includes many steak, bread and kitchen knives.

It also shows a zombie knife and even a Samurai sword.

Cheshire Police says that it remains determined to reduce the number of knives carried across the county.

It adds that this past week, efforts in tackling knife crime have been intensified through enforcement and engagement initiatives as it continues to push towards creating a weapons-free county.
