PLANS to turn a Chapelford home into a children's care home have been turned down.

Plans were submitted to Warrington Borough Council’s planning department seeking a change of use.

The home on Somerville Walk, off Boston Boulevard, had been earmarked for development by applicant Omega Care Group.

Omega Care says it is 'committed to providing a high standard of care to children and young people throughout the service'.

But council planners turned down the scheme because of a lack of parking.

A report published this week said: "It has not been demonstrated that there is sufficient on site parking provision, particularly to meet parking demand at peak times associated with the use and the level of activity, in an area where there is limited available on street parking.

"The applicant has failed to demonstrate that the development would not result in on street parking congestion, highway safety and visibility problems to the detriment of the general amenities of the area and its residents."

At full occupancy, there would be two children in the home, supported by a team of six residential staff on a rolling rota, with two staff members sleeping in at night.

“Generally, on a day-to-day basis, the home runs as a family home. Children will be supported to rise, follow their morning routine, have breakfast and attend education," documents state.

“Managers at Omega Care build excellent relationships with neighbours, and are accessible to discuss any concerns they have, and any positive feedback, which would be more common.

“There is a complaints procedure that any person can follow should they require this, albeit to date Omega has not had a neighbour complaint for any of the its six homes.”
