A care home for adults with complex needs has opened two new units.

Exemplar Health Care's Woolston House on Long Barn Lane opened in October 2023 and has almost reached full capacity within its first year.

The care home supports adults living with complex mental health needs, dementia, neuro-disabilities, and physical disabilities, providing long-term community care for adults who would otherwise have a prolonged stay in hospital or other inappropriate settings.

The home opened with 26 bedrooms with ensuite wet rooms, split across two small, purpose-built units.

The two new units are providing a further 14 beds.

With this small group living model, Exemplar Health Care has found it can provide a far more supportive environment that is more responsive to people’s needs.

The home also features communal dining and living spaces, an activities hub, a beauty salon, multi-faith room, sensory room, therapy kitchen, visitor's suite, and large accessible garden.

Around 40 new jobs have been created, but the home is still looking for a final few 'dedicated and compassionate' colleagues to join its new team.

Recruitment is still ongoing for registered nurses, care assistants, and other support roles.

Full details on all the available jobs, as well as how to apply, can be found on the Exemplar Health Care careers website.

Having opened 15 homes between 2023 and 2024, Exemplar Health Care now employs more than 4,500 people and supports more than 1,000 individuals.

Earlier this year, the provider confirmed these openings formed part of an ambitious growth plan to bring much-needed complex nursing care services to more locations across England.

Des Loo, home manager at Woolston House, said: "I’m excited to be opening these new units and to play a part in expanding Exemplar Health Care's valuable impact into a new community.

"Our hardworking team is devoted to fostering an atmosphere that is welcoming, inclusive, and focused on improving each and every day for the individuals we assist."

Lindsay Holcroft, commissioning manager at Exemplar Health Care, said: "Our newest units are a testament to our dedication to offering excellent nursing care to adults with complex needs.

"I'm confident that Des and his team will make a significant and long-lasting difference to the lives of those we support here.

"The home makes it possible for people from the region who require complex care to live closer to their friends, family, and community."
