ONE thoughtful resident is cooking up a storm on December 25th to ensure no elderly person goes without a homemade Christmas dinner in Warrington.
As a way to “give back to the community” and “bring back some happiness and Christmas cheer”, Abbie Monaghan will be delivering roast dinners with all the trimmings to those who may not be guaranteed to enjoy one on Christmas Day.
The inspiring 26-year-old care assistant from Warrington is advertising Christmas meal deliveries for elderly people, charging a small fee of £25 to cover a main meal, dessert, a wrapped gift and guaranteed delivery to their front door.
Embodying the true festive spirit, Abbie will be prepping the meals on Christmas Eve and cooking them from fresh on Christmas day at her home, with the help of her family.
Speaking on the heartfelt initiative, the mum-of-two said: “I really just want to give back to people, there is so much negativity that I believe the community is feeling as a whole and we need to bring back some happiness and Christmas cheer.
“I have two beautiful girls, Ava and Ella, who will be accompanying me to deliver the meals. We will be dressed for the occasion with our Christmas hats and music on our journey.
“My sister, Danielle, will be making her all time famous apple crumble and custard, mum is helping with meat and my 92-year-old nan Edna is helping to peel the veggies. This will be done at my home.”
On the menu, the following will be included:
Meat - Turkey or Honey Roasted Ham
Choice of vegetables
Roasties
Mash
Pigs in blankets
Stuffing
Gravy
Dessert:
Apple crumble and custard
Chocolate cheesecake
Abbie continued by explaining what made her decide to put her Christmas on hold to help others this year.
“I have done this because I have been a care assistant for seven years. I’ve took a step away from the companies because I feel there is much more to give to the service users.
“The reason for the dinners is nobody should spend Christmas alone, especially not without a home cooked meal.”
She added: “In my experience as a care worker, there are far too many people who just need an extra friend and one who will go above and beyond.
“I want to show people that there is still kindness out there and I want to promote this. I am currently working on my level 5 to set up a care company which is more affordable with all the extra benefits that usual ones may not offer.
Hot dinner deliveries have no restrictions, with Abbie agreeing to deliver to any home in Warrington.
Meals will be delivered between 12pm and 1pm, with that window expanding depending on the interest she receives from the appeal.
And if all goes well this year, she has expressed a desire to potentially move her Christmas dinner deliveries to cover a further reach in the future.
“If there is a lot of interest, we may need to deliver some on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day for more vulnerable people who cannot warm their dinner,” she said.
“I really just want to ensure everybody has a nice Christmas.”
Anyone who wishes to receive a homemade Christmas dinner from Abbie can reach out via text or phone call on 07359012428.
Please provide your name, address and contact details and payments must be made no later than December 13.
