A MAN charged with beating, assaulting and intentionally strangling a woman during a trip to Gulliver’s World has denied all charges and will go to trial at crown court.
Dean Grimes appeared before Warrington Magistrates Court on Wednesday to enter pleas in relation to the incident which occurred on Sunday at the popular theme park in Old Hall.
The pair attended Gulliver’s World on Sunday, November 10.
It was heard that the defendant left the premises of the theme park to go for a few drinks and returned later to the chalet where they were staying. He reportedly “became argumentative” and hit the claimant before getting on top of her and attempted to bite her.
The pair then got in the car and joined the M6, with the aim of going to a McDonald’s in the area.
The victim was taken to hospital following the incident and police were called.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “At around 11.25am on Sunday, November 10, police were called to concerns for the safety of a woman on Fortress Boulevard, Warrington.
“A 40-year-old man was arrested shortly after at an address in Skelmersdale, Lancashire.
“Dean Grimes has since been charged with assault by beating, assault, and intentional strangulation.
“Grimes has been remanded into custody to appear at Warrington Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 13 November.”
Addressing him directly on Wednesday, district judge Dorwick said: “These allegations are too serious to be dealt with in a magistrates court so you will appear at Liverpool Crown Court on December 11.”
The defendant was granted conditional bail, with the conditions being that he does not contact the victim in the case or go to Skelmersdale.
