TRIBUTES have been paid to a man and woman who tragically died following a crash on Chester Road in Warrington.

The incident happened shortly after 6pm on Sunday on A56 Chester Road near to the junction of Hobb Lane.

The road was closed, and a large emergency service presence attended the scene, including fire crews from Warrington, Lymm and Runcorn who helped to rescue casualties.

A 65-year-old man, the driver of a white Seat Leon, and a 42-year-old woman, a rear seat passenger in a Nissan Note, sadly died at the scene.

According to Cheshire Police, two other passengers in the Nissan were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident and anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam or CCTV should contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 1960086.

Following the tragic news, people have paid tributes to the man and woman who died, as well as those who were injured.
