HUGE crowds gathered in Warrington this morning, Sunday, for the town’s annual Remembrance Day service.
The annual event to honour those who have fallen in war started at Warrington Town Hall, where members of the armed forces, veterans and religious leaders gathered for a parade through the streets.
The Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Wendy Johnson, joined the parade, alongside Charlotte Nichols, MP for Warrington North, and Sarah Hall, MP for Warrington South.
At around 10.20am, the parade began making its way to the cenotaph via Spring Street, Palmyra Square South, Suez Street, Ryland Street and Bridge Street.
When the parade made its way to Bridge Foot, the sound of bagpipes filled the street as the parade concluded at the cenotaph.
A service to honour the fallen began shortly before 10.50am, which included a rendition of Flowers of the Forest.
The Last Post signalled the start of the two minute silence, during which The Standards were dipped as a mark of respect.
The formal wreaths were laid as the crowd sang a hymn, which was followed by a scripture reading from Canon Christopher Cunningham, senior Roman Catholic Priest in Warrington.
Led by the Venerable Simon Fisher, Archdeacon of St Helens and Warrington, the service prayed together.
The service concluded with the national anthem, before the parade reformed and made its way back off of Bridge Foot and through the town centre.
