NEW research has named Warrington as one of the UK’s luckiest places to play the Postcode Lottery.
The town came second in the rankings by casino experts at VIP Grinders, who analysed the total number of Postcode Lottery wins across each city and town in the UK as of October.
The total number of wins was divided by the number of postcode districts in each area to reveal those with the highest average number of wins.
Preston came out on top as the luckiest area in the UK for Postcode Lottery wins.
It scored an impressive average of 43.64 wins per postcode district, with the city’s 11 postcode districts having had 480 wins.
Warrington came second with 35.69 average wins per postcode district, with its 16 districts seeing a total of 571 wins.
Behind Warrington came Blackpool, Nottingham, Leicester and Bolton, with these followed in the top 10 by Croydon, Motherwell, Stoke-on-Trent and Blackburn.
On the other hand, the unluckiest area was west central London, with an average of 0.56 wins per postcode district.
Closely following are east central London and Kirkwall, with averages of 0.61 and 3.31 wins per postcode district respectively.
Telma Casaca, head of publishing at VIP Grinders said: “It is no wonder so many people try their luck with the Postcode Lottery, especially with prizes reaching up to £500,000.
“While the postcodes are chosen using a random algorithm to make the outcome unpredictable, it is interesting to see such a big difference in how often postcodes in certain districts are drawn.
“It is fascinating that so many of the top-ranking areas, such as Preston, Warrington and Bolton, are northern.
“One reason why areas like Preston and Warrington could have seen more wins is the number of players registered in each postcode.
“If a higher number of people enter from the same postcode, they have a better chance of winning the Postcode Millions prize compared to just one person entering alone.
“However, this does not apply to other prizes in the Postcode Lottery, so if certain postcode sectors have better than average luck with the £30,000 prize, it is likely because there are more individual postcodes registered in that area than other areas in the UK.”
