A PROPOSAL to introduce a ‘red route’ in part of Warrington has been approved – and will prohibit vehicles from ‘stopping or remaining at rest at any time’.
At its recent meeting, the traffic committee made a decision on a proposal to introduce a ‘red route’ on A49 Winwick Link Road, a section of A49 Newton Road between M62 junction nine and Winwick Link Road and Delph Lane, Winwick between Newton Road and Mill Lane.
Warrington Borough Council has confirmed the proposal to make the order was approved.
“The earliest we could expect the restriction to be in place would be mid to late January 2025,” said a spokesman.
According to a regulatory report to the committee, the measures are ‘primarily to remove any stationary vehicles from the primary route network and adjacent local road network’.
It added: “The adjacent A49 primary route network and local roads prior to and during the numerous car boot sales throughout the year held on land accessed from Townfield Lane present a road safety concern as a result of vehicles parked on the A49, Newton Road grass verges and within the central reservation of the dual carriageway.
“The proposal is to introduce a red route clearway, prohibiting motor vehicles from stopping or remaining at rest at any time, on the A49 Winwick Link Road for its entire length the A49 Newton Road from its junction with M62 junction nine to a point approximately 115 metres south east of its junction with Rectory Lane and Delph Lane from its junction with the A49 Newton Road for its entire length to its junction with Mill Lane, including the verges and footways.
“Motor vehicles are permitted in the lay-bys and taxis are permitted in the bus stops already provided, that are located within the lengths detailed.”
