THE latest monthly crime statistics for Warrington have been released – with reports of crime falling across the borough.

New figures have now been released by the Home Office which cover September 2024 – the most recent period for which data is available.

The town saw an overall fall in reported incidents of crime since last month, which saw the staging of Creamfields, with monthly data also including the number of crimes reported on each street in the town.

As per the figures released on police.uk – which is run by the Home Office – 1,299 crimes were reported across the town in September.

There is a discrepancy with the figures due to the fact that the police log ‘reported crimes’, which means that some crimes that went unreported will not be in the figures.

Equally, some crimes may have been reported more than once.

The figures show the number of reported crimes in September was down from the 1,589 reported in August, and also down from the 1,320 reported in September 2023.

Across Warrington, the streets with the most crimes reported in September were:

  • Hollins Lane – 20
  • Bridge Foot – 13
  • Park Road/ Chester Road – 12
  • Tilley Street – 11
  • Radnor Street/ Carol Street – 10
  • Orion Boulevard/Leatham Close/Patten Lane – 9

In terms of crimes reported from public areas, September’s figures were as follows:

  • Supermarket – 43
  • Parking area – 42
  • Shopping area – 40
  • Petrol station – 25
  • Hospital – 19
  • Nightclub – 18
  • Police station – 11
  • Prison – 11
  • Park or open space – 8
  • Sports or recreation area – 6
  • Bus or coach station – 3
  • Further or higher educational building – 3

While some categories of crime rose in September compared to the previous month, others fell.

Violent and sexual offences continue to be the most prevalent type of crime in Warrington with 612 reports in September – up slightly from 600 in August.

This is followed by anti-social behaviour – down from 191 to 147 – then public disorder, criminal damage and arson, and ‘other theft’.

Drugs in particular saw a huge fall from 177 in August to 52, however this is likely due to the staging of Creamfields music festival last month.

Overall, most crime types experienced falls in reports, namely: anti-social behaviour, criminal damage and arson, drugs, other theft, possession of weapons, public disorder, robbery, shoplifting, theft from a person and vehicle crime,

However, the number of bicycle theft offences, burglary, other crime, and violent or sexual offences, all rose.

In terms of the outcomes of these reports, 494 remain under investigation, according to the data, while 70 are awaiting action or a court outcome.

However, 571 resulted in no prosecution, for reasons such as no suspect being identified, being unable to prosecute a suspect and further action not being in the public interest.
