One person has died after a serious crash on the M6 today.
As reported earlier in the Guardian, Lancashire Police were called at about 11.20am to reports of a serious collision close to junction 33.
The collision involved a HGV travelling northbound which crossed onto the southbound carriageway and collided with several other vehicles.
It has resulted in one fatality and several other serious injuries, said police.
Emergency services are still at the scene and the motorway remains closed in both directions between junctions 32 and 33.
The closure is likely to stay in place for some considerable time.
Police are advising people to check before travelling as diversions are in place.
