A WARRINGTON MP has asked for an update on the current asylum processing system.
Warrington South MP Sarah Hall submitted a written question to the Home Office seeking clarity on the issue.
Hotels in Warrington being used to accommodate migrants include Holiday Inn in Woolston and Fir Grove Hotel in Grappenhall, as well as the nearby Daresbury Park Hotel.
Paddington House Hotel was also being used to house migrants, however the Home Office confirmed in March that it would be ending its contract with the premises.
Labour MP Ms Hall, in her question to the Secretary of State for the Home Department, said: “What is the planned timetable for processing asylum seekers currently resident in hotels?”
The question was answered by Wallasey MP Dame Angela Eagle, who also holds the Government post of Minister of State for the Home Office.
She replied: “The Government is determined to restore order to the asylum system so that it operates swiftly, firmly and fairly.
“This includes our accommodation sites, as the Home Office clears the backlog, increases removals and continues to identify a range of options to minimise the use of hotels and ensure better use of public money.
“All asylum claims will continue to be assessed on an individual basis, in line with published policies.”
