A KNIFEMAN who was caught with a machete on a residential Warrington street has been put behind bars.
Chester Magistrates’ Court heard how Abu Munahim has an ‘appalling record for violence’, with the 28-year-old previously jailed for controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.
Those previous convictions relate to when he threatened his then-girlfriend with an acid attack and petrol bombing in a campaign of abuse.
Munahim appeared before magistrates recently charged with possessing a knife or bladed article in a public place and possessing cannabis.
Having entered guilty pleas to both charges, the court proceeded to sentence him.
Both offences were committed on October 16 this year, explained Tara Thomas, prosecuting.
The defendant was caught on St Katherine’s Way in Howley while possessing a machete and a quantity of the controlled class B drug cannabis.
The court heard of his previous convictions, including his sentence of four-and-a-half years imposed in December 2022 for controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
This involved Munahim, who received an ASBO aged 15, violently attacking her, threatening her family, telling her what she could and could not eat and wear, and threaten to kill her.
For his latest offence of possessing a ‘potentially lethal’ machete, magistrates commented that the defendant has an ‘appalling record for violence’.
As a result, they sentenced Munahim, whose address on court documents was given as Washington Drive, Warrington, to six months in prison, to be served immediately.
Orders were also approved to deprive the defendant of the machete and for the destruction of the cannabis.
