RETROSPECTIVE plans for the erection of metal railings in the town centre look set for approval.

An application proposing the retention of the railings to boundaries, on Stanley Street, will come before the development management committee at its meeting next Thursday.

It is being recommended for approval, subject to conditions, with delegated authority given to the development manager to make ‘non-material changes to planning conditions and reasons as may be necessary’ prior to the issue of the decision.

A report to the committee says the application site is the ‘garden of a row of terraced properties that are part of a group of three properties that are Grade II listed and is located between the application properties and Wilson Patten Street’.

It also says the application site is ‘within an established mixed-use area with buildings of a variety of sizes’.

It adds: “This application seeks planning permission to retain the metal railings that have been erected around the boundaries to the front and sides of the amenity space and the two disabled parking spaces associated with the site.

“The site already benefited from elements of a brick built wall located on the boundary with Wilson Patten Street and the remains at a low level of a mainly sandstone boundary along the boundary with Wilson Patten Street and Bold Street.

“The retrospective application seeks consent for the metal railings along the boundary with Bold Street, along elements of the boundary with Wilson Patten Street (between the elements of the existing 1.2m high brick built wall) and along the side boundary of the parking spaces and this separates the site from the adjacent site on Stanley Street.”
